(উইলিয়াম ওয়ার্ডওয়ার্থ)
জীবন কথা : উইলিয়াম ওয়ার্ডওয়ার্থ ৭ এপ্রিল, ১৭৭০ সালে ইংল্যান্ডের অন্তর্গত ককারমাউথে (Cumberland) এ জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। ২৩ এপ্রিল, ১৮৫০ সালে অর্থাৎ আশি বছর বয়সে এই সম্মানিত কবি মৃত্যুর কোলে ঢলে পড়েন।
সাহিত্যকর্ম : উইলিয়াম ওয়ার্ডওয়ার্থন১৭৯৮–১৮০৮ সালে অধিকাংশ রচনা করেছেন। ১৭৯৮ সালে উইলিয়াম ওয়ার্ডওয়ার্থ এবং কোলরিজ (S.T. Coleridge) মিলে যৌথভাবে ‘লিরিক্যাল ব্যালাডস’ (Lyrical Ballads) রচনা করেছেন। এতে কোলরিজের ৪ টি কবিতা এবং উইলিয়াম ওয়ার্ডওয়ার্থের ১৯ টি কবিতা স্থান পেয়েছে। তিনি তাঁর অনন্য সাধারন Poetic Diction (শব্দ চয়ন) এবং Lucid Language (প্রাঞ্জল ভাষা) এর জন্য বিখ্যাত হয়ে আছেন।
উপাধি : তাঁকে—
- Thr Poet of Childhood বলা হয়।
- ইংল্যান্ডের রাজকবি (Poet Laureate) বলা হয়।
- ইংরেজি সাহিত্যের প্রকৃতির কবি (Poet of Nature) বলা হয়।
- The Lake Poet, the Worshipper of Nature বলা হয়।
- ১৮৩৯ সালে অক্সফোর্ড বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কবিকে ডি.সি.এল উপাধি প্রদান করেন।
- রোমান্টিক আন্দোলনের প্রবর্তক (The Great Pioneer of Romantic Movement) বলা হয়।
