Acid throwing is a social menace which is increasing day by day at a threatening rate. Women are mostly victim to it. Generally, a young man throws acid at a young girl when she refused to love him. Or it may happen when a dowry hunter husband throws acid on his wife. Acid damages the part of the body where it gets and gives the victim and indescribable feeling of pain and anguish. It takes a long time to recover it. The damage is incurable. The place of the body becomes defective forever. Though the victim, however, recovers from physical pain, the painful experience can never be forgotten. The government has taken some steps to prevent such inhuman act. We should co-operate with the government to remove the curse of acid throwing from society.

Acid throwing is one of the most heinous crimes. In our country, nowadays we read about the incidents of acid throwing in the national dailies. In most cases, it is seen that women and children are the worst victims of acid throwing. The incident of acid throwing takes place due to mainly two reasons. One is family enmity, another one is the rejection of love. If two families fall into enmity on different issues, often one of them takes the path of savage (অসভ্য/নির্মম/নৃশংস) Vengeance (প্রতিহিসংসা/প্রতিশোধ) and throws acid on the women and children of opponent (প্রতিপক্ষ) side. Again, if any youth is rejected in his love by the girl he loves, he also may throw acid on the girl. The acid victims suffer from an unbearable pain as the skin of the acid thrown part of the body gets burnt. Government must take punitive (শস্তিমূলক) action against the acid throwers. The involved criminals should be tried in summary trial and must be awarded with death sentence. Government, non-government and socio-cultural organizations should come forward to launch campaign against this crime. Awareness among the people should be raised against acid throwing. These are some of the ways, how we can stop the incidents of acid throwing.
